Challenge the status quo

Both presidential and gubernatorial aspirants parading themselves as “the one” to take Nigeria forward from where it is now for the next 4 years to come. The irony of this course is; none of them is new to the game, none of them is believable. Same old wine skin not even in new wine skin.

If only we can look all around the world, beside ourselves and see what is happening, the new world order that is forming, , a new generation of change makers, pathfinders and leaders of nations emerging to take their countries forward to even greater heights. Nations and it’s people re-strategising and negotiating a better or adjusted future (even as unpleasant as the outcome of the plans sounds ) that they think is the way to go in their nation.

In America you have 48 year old Barack Obama as the president of the United States, the Labour party in the United Kingdom, just last month nominated Ed Milliband the 41 year old younger brother of David Milliband as it party leader. Earlier in the year, we also saw the boomers in the persons of the Conservative party leader Prime minister, David Cameron, and Nick Clegg of the liberal democrats both in their prime, after negotiations, forming a coalition government to rule Britain for the next 3years to come. Change has continued to happen in spite of the global recession. I suspect that is because this nations are use to prioritising the future, they know they cannot afford not to prepare for it. It is a must.

And that is the lesson for Africans leaders to learn from, being a lifetime leader is a sign of insecurity, fear and oppression. Mind you, you are not representing the people’s interests but your own. Your drive is not to service 1st or at all, yourself gratification is your driving force and that is at the expense of the over 1Billion Nigerians you are forcefully leading.

Do not give me that crap about being voted in to power! It is a well know open secret that you all rig, kill and maim to get into power and I still doubt it if the forthcoming elections in 2011 is going to be any different the Jega Attahiru bank rolled INEC, and its agenda for credible elections. But I wait to be proven wrong.

It is a show of shame, that none of these self churning political gurus have critically given the future of Nigeria a thought, let alone identified where we are and where we need to be. They neither have a manifesto of their agenda, rather it is a political jamboree; a hired crowed, loud mouth, empty praises and promises.

Talking about newer and younger generation of leaders, one of the old wineskin could have identified a protégé at least, a younger candidate, a new pump of energy, new way of thinking that Nigeria so desperately need but that is not the case, they rather hold on so tightly to power and put down any such candidate.

Making a call for social change is difficult and that’s its nature. But until the people say enough is enough, and demand, stand, fight for what they truly deserve, then I see this bondage, this fixture upheld for a longer time to come.

I am sympathetic towards us a people, because the root cause of our aloofness is the lifelong oppression we have been put through and would rather concentrate on surviving than challenging the status quo unceasingly. But the way forward lies in challenging the status quo unceasingly.

Arise O compatriots, Nigeria call to obey.

Nigeria is fifty!

All is not well with the state of our nation Nigeria.

It is in fact a mixed blessing situation.

There is poverty in the land, unemployment is high and so is inter tribal wars.

Yet we are a loved nation chosen by God and blessed with abundant human and natural resources.

We could be more prosperous as a nation if all these were properly harnessed.

A group in the society suffers the most from a malfunctioning country like ours.

Women and children are the most affected by poverty, poor health care services, war, kidnapping, unemployment and bad education system and are the most vulnerable to the insecurity of the country.

The woman despite all she goes through is still the bedrock of the Africa family, keeping it all together.

The population of women is higher than any other group in Nigeria.

Yet we have the least say on issues of nation building.

We cannot keep watching while things get worse for ourselves and our loved ones.

That is why today, dear Nigerian woman, you must rise up to demand better of the status quo.

Our nation needs us to become a role models and ambassadors of its needed change. When a woman taps into a vision she influences her family and society at large.

It is not too late, regardless of your tribe, religion or cultural belief, women lets rise in one accord to rebuild our nation.

All for one one for all.
